Habitat
Primary or secondary evergreen forest, open, deciduous dipterocarp forest, bamboo, and agricultural fields, particularly in close proximity to forest, deciduous dipterocarp forest, riverine corridors of bamboo forest. From sea-level - 1,600 m.
Bangladesh (B), Cambodia (B), China (mainland) (E) (B), India (B), Laos (B), Malaysia (B), Myanmar (B), Thailand (B), Vietnam (B).
Southern Tibet and eastern India (west to eastern Madhya Pradesh) through Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand to Hainan, southern Laos and central and southern Vietnam (Annam, Cochinchina).

Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat loss and fragmentation due to commercial logging, small-scale timber collection, and clearance of forests for plantation agriculture, cash-crops, charcoal production and shifting cultivation, is the main threat.

Subspecies
Related to the Nilgiri Woodpigeon (Columba elphinstonii) superspecies, and perhaps also allied to Silvery Pigeon (Columba argentina).
