Subtropical and tropical high altitude shrubland, temperate shrubland. From sea-level - 4,000 m.

China (mainland) (B), India (B).

South-western China, south-eastern Tibet and north-eastern Assam.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation, trapping pressure and egg-collecting for the pet trade, are the main threats.
