Subspecies
May be closely related to Red-backed Buttonquail (Turnix maculosus), although this proposal has not been widely accepted.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
tanki Blyth, 1843 - Indian Subcontinent, Andaman and Nicobar Is.
blanfordii Blyth, 1863 - Myanmar through Indochina to eastern China, breeding north to Korea and extreme Seast of Soviet Far East (southern Amurland and Ussuriland).
