Dense undergrowth of broadleaved primary and secondary evergreen forest, sometimes adjacent scrub, bamboo, grassland and cultivation. From 610 - 1,220 m.

North-eastern India (Assam), Bangladesh, northern Burma and south-central China (western Yunnan).

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat loss and degradation through logging, shifting agriculture, persecution, hunting and snaring, ae the main threats.
