Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry and moist shrubland, inland wetlands. From sea-level - 2,700 m.

Range (Guide)

Chile (B), Peru (B).

Southern Peru from southern Lima (R R��mac) south to Tacna, and north-western Chile south to northern Antofagasta (R Loa).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.

Status NT
Habitat destruction, degradation and fragmentation through intensive irrigation and cultivation is the main threat.

A jumbled warbling song and a sharp 'zeep' call.

No subspecies.

Similar Species
Plumbeous Sierra-Finch (Geospizopsis unicolor) lacks yellow bill and legs. Female Blue-black Grassquit (Volatinia jacarina) is considerably smaller and shorter-tailed.
