Restricted to limited zone in Andes, 15° - 26° south, comprising extreme southern Peru, western Bolivia, northern Chile and north-western Argentina. Most localized species.

Estimated population is 100,000 (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through mining, excessive extraction of water, disturbance through tourism are the main threats.

Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) which is pinker, with a paler and longer bill, Andean Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus andinus) which is larger showing more black in wings and bill and has yellow legs.
