Habitat
Temperate forest. More rarely in sclerophyll forest, parklands, mixed forest, open areas. Hunts on shrubland, grassland, agricultural land.
Argentina (R), Chile (R).
Food
Birds, rodents. Ocassionally insects.
Voice
A barking row of 'keh' or 'kow'. Also a woodpecker-like faster and accelerating staccato of 'kek' calls.

Nest
Platform of dry sticks and twigs, intertwined, in the fork of a branch of the upper part of a tree about 16 - 20 m above the ground.
Eggs (Guide)
2; rarely 3; dull, light bluish to off-white; oval. Incubation: about 21 days.
Subspecies
Not recognized as a species by BirdLife International. Often considered a subspecies of Bicolored Hawk (Accipiter bicolor).
Forms superspecies with Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii), Gundlach's Hawk (Accipiter gundlachi) and Bicolored Hawk (Accipiter bicolor).
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Bicolored Hawk (Accipiter bicolor).
No subspecies.
