Description (10)
Image of Rufous-chested Plover (Non-breeding plumage)
  Medium small. Sexes alike.

Adults: Breeding: Face, grey. Supercilium, crisp and white.. Upperaprts, brown. Breast, rufous, with a black breastband. Underparts, white. Bill, brown. Legs, grey-green. Non-breeding: Like breeding adult but supercilium paler, breast darker, breastband very reduced. No grey on face. Often some rufous on breast. Upperparts, unmarked and dark brown. Underparts, white. Bill, brown. Legs, grey-green.

Juveniles: Like non-breeding adult but paler, particularly on breast. Some feathers of upperparts crisply edged buff.

Range (Guide)
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Uruguay (NB).

Vagrant to Peru, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, St Helena.

Southern South America in south-central and southern Chile and west-central and southern Argentina and Falkland Is. Winters north to northern Chile and south-eastern Brazil.
 
Population
Estimated population is 130,000 - 1,100,000 (2010).
