Latham, 1790
Habitat
Freshwater lakes, saline marshes, rocky shores, and sandy shores.
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Falkland Islands (Malvinas), Uruguay (NB).
Central and southern Chile and Argentina; locally in southern Brazil; Falkland Is. Winters north to northern Chile, Uruguay and southern Brazil.
 
Population
Estimated population is 46,000 - 140,000 (2010).

Subspecies
Has been considered conspecific with Puna Plover (Charadrius alticola ). Population of Falkland Is has been suggested as meriting a separate subspecies, on basis of high frequency of broken upper breast band.
No subspecies.
