Habitat
Open country, frequenting coastal grassland and meadows, often with Upland Goose (Chloephaga picta) and Ashy-headed Goose (Chloephaga poliocephala) (Argentina only).

Range (Guide)

Argentina (B), Chile (B), Falkland Islands (Malvinas) (B).

Extreme southern South America, Tierra del Fuego, Falkland Is; formerly more widespread.

Population
Estimated population is 43,000 - 82,000 (2010).

Voice
Male utters a thin whistle. Female a quack-like grunt. Higher pitched than Ashy-headed Goose (Chloephaga poliocephala).
