Cö-nö-poph'-il-a - Gk, conops, gnat; Gk, philos, fond of: whitei - Alfred Henry Edsworth White, son of Henry L. White (1860 - 1927), prominent ornithologist and collector, of Belltrees, Scone, NSW

Habitat
Low acacia woodlands and shrublands in arid zones, including those dominated by mulga. Also in well vegetated sandhills, and gardens.

Australia (B).

Arid and semi-arid inland Australia: widely scattered records from W Western Australia east to central and southern Northern Territory (south of 17° south) and, rarely, northern South Australia.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Habits
Usually singly or in pairs but occasionally in small groups, often associating with thornbills and Western Gerygone (Gerygone fusca).

Food
Insects.

Voice
Slightly harsh, and quite loud 'cre-seek', the last note being higher. Also short reel like a fairy-wren. A short, high-pitched jingling song.

Nest
A frail structure, composed of fiber, loosely wooven and bound with cobweb, placed near the extremity of a slender branch within 2 m of the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2; white, dotted red-brown, particularly at the larger end; tapered-oval; about 17 x 12 mm. Incubation: by both sexes.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Tended by both parents.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Often placed in a monotypic genus, Lacustroica.
