Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest. From sea-level - 1,400.

Range (Guide)
Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Kenya, Somalia, Tanzania [United Republic of], Uganda.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Genus closest to Stizorhina, the two forming a group which, in turn, is most closely related to New World Myadestes.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

  • gabunensis Neumann, 1908   -  Southern Cameroon and Gabon east to northern DRCongo and western Uganda.
  • rufus (Fischer & Reichenow, 1884)   -  Eastern Kenya and eastern Tanzania, including Zanzibar I.
