Habitat
Within and at the edge of very humid to wet primary submontane forest. From 890 - 1,500 m.
Ecuador (B), Peru (B).
Locally in eastern Andes of northern and southern Ecuador and in south-central Peru (Cordillera Vilcabamba, in Ayacucho).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).
Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation is the main threat.

Subspecies
Probably most closely related to Atlantic Grey Elaenia (Myiopagis caniceps).
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- coopmansi Cuervo, Stiles, Lentino, Brumfield & Derryberry, 2014 - Northern Central Andes of Colombia (Antioquia).
- incognita Cuervo, Stiles, Lentino, Brumfield & Derryberry, 2014 - Serranía de Perijá, Venezuela.
- olallai Coopmans & Krabbe, 2000 - North-central Colombia, western Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.
