Habitat
Dense lowland primary and secondary rainforest where rank vegetation lines streams, rivers, and swamps or marshy areas. Also mangrove swamps.

Range (Guide)

Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], C�te dIvoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo, Uganda.

Sierra Leone east to western Uganda and south to coastal and central Zaire.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Status LC
Forest habitat destruction, hunting for food, trade are the main threats.

Subspecies
Sometimes divided into subspecies, with recognition of petiti of Gabon to central Zaire, and whitesidei of south-central and eastern Zaire, but in view of great individual variation in plumage within ranges of all proposed subspecies, and overlap of characters, the species is probably best treated as monotypic until more extensive studies are made.
