Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, swamp forest. Also, inland wetlands, heavily degraded former forest, plantations.
Côte dIvoire (B) (NB), Ghana (B) (NB), Guinea (B) (NB), Liberia (B) (NB), Sierra Leone (B) (NB).
Eastern Sierra Leone and south-eastern Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast and south-western Ghana.

Population
Estimated population is 20,000 - 49,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction from logging and conversion for settlement and agriculture are the main threats.

Voice
Little known. A 'tzzitt' uttered in flight.
Subspecies
No subspecies.
Forms a superspecies with Oriole Cuckooshrike (Lobotos oriolinus), and sometimes regarded as conspecific, but male plumages distinct.
Similar Species
Very similar to forest orioles, but smaller, and has small black, not large red, bill and obvious orange gape.
