Subspecies
Genus formerly submerged in Pycnonotus. Sibling species of Ansorge's Greenbul (Eurillas ansorgei). Similarities in appearance both to Ansorge's Greenbul (Eurillas ansorgei) and to Plain Greenbul (Eurillas curvirostris) have resulted in much confusion, historically and currently, which has obscured the status of each.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
extrema (Hartert, 1922) - Western Guinea east to Togo and south-western Nigeria.
gracilis (Cabanis, 1880) - South-eastern Nigeria (east of R Niger, also isolated population on Jos Plateau) east to central DRCongo and south to northern Angola.
ugandae (van Someren, 1915) - Eastern DRCongo east to central Uganda and western Kenya.
