Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
- albicapillus (Vieillot, 1818) - Senegal and Gambia east to north-eastern Guinea.
- giffardi Hartert, 1899 - Southern Mali and northern Ivory Coast east to northern Cameroon and southern Chad.
- omoensis Sharpe, 1900 - South-eastern Sudan and south-western Ethiopia.
