Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest and shrubland, dry savanna. From 800 - 2,000 m.

Range (Guide)
Cameroon (B), Central African Republic (B), Chad (B), Congo [The Democratic Republic of the], Côte dIvoire (B), Djibouti, Ethiopia (B), Ghana (B), Guinea (B), Kenya, Liberia, Mali (B), Nigeria (B), Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan (B), Togo, Uganda, Yemen.

Vagrant to Burkina Faso.

Patchily Liberia (Yekepa/Nimba), central Mali (southern Gourma, Dogon Plateau), north-eastern Ivory Coast, northern Ghana, northern Togo, central and eastern Nigeria, northern Cameroon, southern Chad, western and southern Sudan, western Ethiopia (Bonga, Welkite, Arsi Neghelli), north-western Somalia (Mt Wagar), extreme north-eastern DRCongo (Aba, Dramba), Uganda (Budongo, Gula, Labwor), Kenya, and south-western Arabia (Hejaz south to Aden).

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Forms a superspecies with Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata), and sometimes regarded as conspecific.
