Subspecies
Monotypic genus, may be most related to Asian Spilornis species and Madagascan Eutriorchis.

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:

spectabilis (Schlegel, 1863) - Sierra Leone east to southern Nigeria and north-western Cameroon.
batesi (Sharpe, 1904) - Southern Cameroon east to western Uganda and south to Gabon and south-central Zaire; northern Angola.
