Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest.

Range (Guide)

Central African Republic, Congo [The Democratic Republic of the].

Central and eastern Zaire (east to near borders of Uganda and Rwanda); reported also south-western Central African Republic.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Bristle-nosed Barbet (Gymnobucco peli), both also rather closely related to Naked-faced Barbet (Gymnobucco calvus).
