Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Spotted Treecreeper (Salpornis spilonota).

Subspecies
Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Spotted Treecreeper (Salpornis spilonota).
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
emini Hartlaub, 1884 - Gambia south to western Guinea, north-western Sierra Leone and northern Ivory Coast eastern discontinuously to northern Ghana, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, northern Cameroon, southern Chad (southern from Azoum/Chari confluence) and northern Central African Republic. Also southern Sudan, adjacent north-eastern DRCongo (north-eastern Uele) and extreme north-western Uganda. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Spotted Treecreeper (Salpornis spilonota).
erlangeri Neumann, 1907 - Western and south-eastern Ethiopian Highlands. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Spotted Treecreeper (Salpornis spilonota).
