Eastern and southern Brazil (from central Maranhío and central Piauí south to Mato Grosso do Sul, Sío Paulo and Minas Gerais; also south-eastern Amapá), north-eastern Bolivia and north-eastern Paraguay. Recent record from southern Suriname.

Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through conversion to soybeans, exportable crops and Eucalyptus plantations, and extensive cattle-ranching, are the main threats.
