Subspecies
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

gadowi Barboza du Bocage, 1892 - Highlands of west-central Angola.
kilimensis Shelley, 1884 - Highlands in eastern DRCongo, southern Uganda, western and central Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and northern Tanzania.
arturi Sclater, PL, 1906 - Southern and south-eastern Tanzania, Malawi west of Rift Valley, eastern Zambia, eastern highlands of Zimbabwe and adjoining Mozambique.
