Habitat
Subtropical and tropical dry forest, dry savanna. From 1,500 - 1,800 m.

Range (Guide)
Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Oman (B), Saudi Arabia (B), Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania [United Republic of], Yemen (B).

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Sometimes included in a superspecies with Orange River White-eye (Zosterops pallidus), African Yellow White-eye (Zosterops senegalensis) and Ethiopian White-eye (Zosterops poliogastrus). Subspecies believed by some authors to represent two separate species, nominate, arabs, socotranus and jubaensis forming one species and omoensis and flavilateralis another.

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

  • abyssinicus Guérin-Méneville, 1843   -  North-eastern Sudan (region of Erkowit), Eritrea and northern and central Ethiopia.
  • arabs Lorenz von Liburnau, L & Hellmayr, 1901   -  South-western Saudi Arabia, Yemen and southern Oman.
  • socotranus Neumann, 1908   -  Northern Somalia and Socotra I. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Socotra White-eye (Zosterops socotranus).
  • omoensis Neumann, 1904   -  Western Ethiopia.
  • jubaensis Erlanger, 1901   -  Southern Ethiopia, northern Kenya (south to Kulal) and southern Somalia. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Kenya White-eye (Zosterops flavilateralis).
  • flavilateralis Reichenow, 1892   -  Eastern, central and southern Kenya south to north-eastern and eastern Tanzania. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Kenya White-eye (Zosterops flavilateralis).
