Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Buff-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus leucotis), Superciliated Wren (Cantorchilus superciliaris) and Fawn-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus guarayanus) and treated by some authors as conspecific with Buff-breasted Wren (Cantorchilus leucotis). Subspecies bahiae possibly a separate species, differing from nominate in plumage, voice and habitat.
The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
bahiae (Hellmayr, 1903) - North-eastern Brazil, from Ceará and Piauí south to Bahia and northern and eastern Minas Gerais.
longirostris Vieillot, 1818 - Coastal region of eastern Brazil, from south-eastern Bahia south to eastern Santa Catarina.
