Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, lowland dry and moist shrubland, urban areas, rural plantations. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Range (Guide)
Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras (E) (B), Puerto Rico.

Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Frequently placed in a separate genus, Mimocichla. Has been suggested that eastern subspecies ardosiaceus and albiventris warrant treatment as a separate species.

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

  • plumbeus Linnaeus, 1758   -  Northern Bahama Is.
  • rubripes Temminck, 1826   -  Western and central Cuba and I of Pines. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Western Red-legged Thrush (Turdus rubripes).
  • schistaceus (Baird, SF, 1864)   -  Eastern Cuba.
  • coryi (Sharpe, 1902)   -  Cayman Is (Cayman Brac).
  • ardosiaceus Vieillot, 1822   -  Hispaniola (including I de la Tortue, I de la Goní˘ve) and Puerto Rico. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Eastern Red-legged Thrush (Turdus ardosiaceus).
  • albiventris (Sclater, PL, 1889)   -  Dominica.
