Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland and montane moist forest, lowland dry and moist shrubland, urban areas, rural plantations. From sea-level - 1,200 m.

Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras (E) (B), Puerto Rico.

Subspecies
Frequently placed in a separate genus, Mimocichla. Has been suggested that eastern subspecies ardosiaceus and albiventris warrant treatment as a separate species.

The following 6 subspecies are recognised:

plumbeus Linnaeus, 1758 - Northern Bahama Is.
rubripes Temminck, 1826 - Western and central Cuba and I of Pines. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Western Red-legged Thrush (Turdus rubripes).
schistaceus (Baird, SF, 1864) - Eastern Cuba.
coryi (Sharpe, 1902) - Cayman Is (Cayman Brac).
ardosiaceus Vieillot, 1822 - Hispaniola (including I de la Tortue, I de la Gon��ve) and Puerto Rico. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Eastern Red-legged Thrush (Turdus ardosiaceus).
albiventris (Sclater, PL, 1889) - Dominica.
