Pacific slope of Andes from central Colombia (extreme south of Chocó and Valle) south to north-western Ecuador (south to southern Pichincha). Monotypic.
 
Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010) and decreasing.
Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation through unplanned colonisation, following the completion of roads, and massive logging concessions are the main threats. Also cattle-grazing, mining and coca and palm cultivation may also pose problems.
