Habitat
Forests, pastures with trees and gardens.

Norfolk Island (B) (NB).

Population
Estimated population is 3,000 (2010) and stable.

Status NT
Habitat destruction through clearing is the main threat.

Weaker than other Gerygones, final note rather slurred.

Nest
Domed, with a side-entrance near the top, composed of fine dried grass, rootlets and moss, suspended among foliage.

Eggs (Guide)
3; white with brown and reddish spots.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fed by both parents.

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Relationships uncertain. May possibly belong in the superspecies formed by Brown Gerygone (Gerygone mouki) and Grey Gerygone (Gerygone igata) and all were once considered (together with the extinct Lord Howe I species Lord Howe Gerygone (Gerygone insularis)) to be conspecific, but they differ significantly in plumage and song. Possibly closer to Mangrove Gerygone (Gerygone levigaster) - Western Gerygone (Gerygone fusca) group. Further study is required.
