Dense, tall, wet eucalypt forests, rainforest margins, creek thickets.

Eastern and south-eastern Australia on and east of Great Divide, from south-eastern Queensland (southern from Gympie) south to eastern Victoria (western as far as eastern Melbourne, and with an isolated colony just north-west of Melbourne).

Habits
Usually in flocks.

Food
Mainly leaf-insects, with some nectar.

Voice
Abrupt, clear, penetrating 'peep', sounding like a 'tink' in the distance. Also a harsh 'chak, chak'. In a colony a continual tinkling is often heard.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of grass, thin strips of bark, and twigs, bound with cobweb, suspended from a forked twig of a small bush or tree, from 1 to 7 - 8 m above the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2, sometimes 1 or 3; pale pink spotted with chestnut, red or purple-brown; oval; about 24 x 16 mm. Incubation: about 15 days; by female.

Young
Fledge in 12 - 15 days.
