Habitat
Mainly mallee shrubland, woodland or heathland, with a shrub layer often dominated by acacias, in arid and, less often, semi-arid zones.

A metallic, scratchy, 'pert-pertoo-peet', 'quack-peter-peter-peter', 'peter-peet-peet', 'tsing tsing tsing'. A peevish, canary-like 'tweet'. A scolding 'tuck, tuck, tuck'.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of bark and grass, lined with plant-down, placed in a low bush, within 1 - 2 m of the ground.

Eggs (Guide)
2 - 3; pale buff spotted at the larger end with red-brown and underlying purple; oval; about 20 x 14 mm. Incubation: about 14 days; said to be by female only.

Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 14 days.
