South-western Australia (mostly south of 30° southern but largely excluding far south-west) east to Eyre Bird Observatory (scattered records north of this range), and from eastern Nullarbor Plain and southern Great Victoria Desert eastern in South Australia (including Eyre Peninsula, Flinders Ranges) to The Coorong and Murray-Mallee and to north-western and north-central Victoria and central New South Wales.

Nest
Cup-shaped, composed of grasses and strips of bark, bound with cobweb, placed in drooping foliage, in a bush or small tree.
Eggs (Guide)
2 or 3; salmon-pink minutely freckled with red-brown, particularly at the larger end; oval; about 20 x 14 mm. Incubation: probably 12 - 15 days.
Young
Altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 12 - 14 days.
Similar Species
Grey-fronted Honeyeater (Ptilotula plumula) which has a wider yellow plume, less heavily streaked underparts, which are more creamy, a thin black line from bill to below the ear, and a grey frons, which is very difficult to see in the field. And Fuscous Honeyeater (Ptilotula fusca) which lacks any steaking on the breast and has a dark upper edge to the small yellow plume.
