Habitat
Isolated rocky outcrops and associated dry vegetation on tablelands. From 1,000 - 2,000 m.
Brazil (B).
East-central and north-central Minas Gerais, in south-eastern Brazil.
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and stable.
Status NT
Brood-parasitism by the Shiny Cowbird (Molothrus bonariensis ) is the main threat.

Voice
Song is a series of loud, sharp notes descending in pitch and terminating with series of slower notes. Also liquid and metallic, trilled call.

No subspecies.
Relationships uncertain. Plumage most similar to that of Patagonian Canastero (Pseudasthenes patagonica ), but voice most similar to that of Creamy-breasted Canastero (Asthenes dorbignyi ).
