Subspecies
Genus appears not to represent a monophyletic grouping, but traditional arrangement maintained herein pending further phylogenetic study. Close relationship with Ferruginous-backed Antbird (Myrmoderus ferrugineus), Scalloped Antbird (Myrmoderus ruficauda) and Squamate Antbird (Myrmoderus squamosus) suggested by similarities in plumage, vocalizations and nest architecture. Forms a superspecies with Squamate Antbird (Myrmoderus squamosus), and has been considered conspecific by some authors.
