Subspecies
Forms a superspecies with Black-headed Antbird (Percnostola rufifrons), the two possibly not closely related to other species currently placed in genus.
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Male lacks black crown of Black-headed Antbird (Percnostola rufifrons), and female shows strong contrast between reddish-brown of majority of the underparts and clear white belly patch, chin and throat.
