Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland and swamp forest. From sea-level - 1,400 m.

Range (Guide)

Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela.

Eastern and southern Venezuela (south-eastern Sucre, Delta Amacuro, Bol��var, Amazonas), the Guianas, and forested parts of whole of Amazon Basin (western from edge of Andes) from Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil south to Bolivia; also coastal eastern Brazil (Pernambuco south to Esp��rito Santo).

Subspecies
No subspecies.

Analysis of feather proteins has suggested possible relationship between this species and genus Tijuca (especially Black-and-gold Cotinga (Lipaugus ater)). Despite increase in size and weight from north to south-west of range, and presence of isolated population in eastern Brazil, variation considered insufficient to merit naming of geographical subspecies.
