Estimated population is 10,000 - 19,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat fragmentation, vulnerability of habitat to fire and possible clearing are the main threats.

Food
Nectar, arthropods. Catchs flying insects from the tops of low shrubs. Often in mixed species feeding flocks.

Similar Species
Males distinguished from Common Sunbird-Asity (Neodrepanis coruscans) by combination of blackish (not yellow-fringed) primaries, unsullied yellow underparts, more extensive eye-wattle, particularly in front of eye, and shorter, less decurved bill. Females have centre of breast (at least) bright yellow. Souimanga Sunbird (Cinnyris sovimanga) also by very short tail and tiny size.
