Marine, rarely observed at sea.
Eastern Central Pacific (NB), New Zealand (B), Northeast Pacific (NB), Northwest Pacific (NB), Southwest Pacific (B) (NB), United States Minor Outlying Islands (NB), USA (NB), Wallis and Futuna Islands (NB), Western Central Pacific (NB).
Vagrant to Japan.

Estimated population is 5,000 - 8,000 (2010) and increasing.

Food
Fish, squid and other marine life.
Eggs (Guide)
1; smoothed shelled, matte white; oval; 48 x 35 mm. Incubation: about 45 days; both sexes.
Young
Semi-altricial, nidicolous. Fledge in about 77 - 84 days.
Subspecies
Sometimes placed in Stejneger's Petrel (Pterodroma longirostris). May form superspecies with Stejneger's Petrel (Pterodroma longirostris), White-winged Petrel (Pterodroma leucoptera) and (?) Bonin Petrel (Pterodroma hypoleuca).
No subspecies.
