Habitat
Primary dipterocarp forest, particularly in steep terrain, occasionally secondary growth and gallery forest, but not occupying open canopy forest. From sea-level - 1,800 m, occasionally to 2,000 m.
Larger islands of northern and eastern Philippines, on Luzon, Leyte, Samar and Mindanao.
 
Population
Estimated population is 180 - 500 (2010) and decreasing.
Status CR
Forest destruction and fragmentation, through commercial timber extraction and shifting cultivation, hunting, are the main threats.

Voice
Loud, high-pitched whistles. Begging juvenile gives a regular series of high-pitched cries.
