Adults: General plumage white. Some seem to have been all blue and some blue and white.

Status EX
Extinct. Endemic to Lord Howe Island. Last seen between 1788 - 1830. It was probably hunted to extinction by early settlers as being a ground dweller was easy prey.

Food
Plant and invertebrates procured from the ground.
Subspecies
Although sometimes considered conspecific with Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) (Livezey 1998), it had shorter and more robust legs and toes, a smaller bill and softer remiges and rectrices (Taylor and van Perlo 1998).
No subspecies.
