Habitat
Low-lying marshes or inundated grasslands with dense tussock-grasses, often located in areas of undulating terrain adjacent to gallery forest, partially flooded savanna.
South-central Brazil (Federal District) and central Paraguay.
 
Population
Estimated population is 2,500 - 9,999 (2010) and decreasing.
Status VU
Habitat destruction and degradation due to conversion to agriculture, cattle ranching, afferestation, pollution, are the main threats.

Voice
Song is a drawn out, slightly descending trill similar to other crakes. A hollow 'piú piú'.

Rufous-sided Crake (Laterallus melanophaius) can show thin barring on wings but has drab brown head and upper neck.
