Vagrant to Burkina Faso, Côte dIvoire, Croatia (Local Name: Hrvatska), Denmark, France, Ghana, Italy, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malta, Nigeria, Senegal, United Kingdom.
Population
Estimated population is 130,000 - 1,500,000 (2010).

The following 2 subspecies are recognised:
ruficollis Temminck, 1820 - Spain, Portugal and northern Morocco.
desertorum Erlanger, 1899 - North-eastern Morocco, northern Algeria (south to Great Atlas Mts) and northern Tunisia.
