Habitat
Subtropical and tropical montane moist forest. Also, subtropical and tropical high altitude shrubland. From 1,500 - 3,700 m.

Range (Guide)

Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela.

Andes from northern Venezuela south to western and central Bolivia.

Population
Estimated population is unknown (2010).

Subspecies
Bolivian population sometimes separated as subspecies tertia.

The following 3 subspecies are recognised:

albitarsis (Bonaparte, 1850) - Andes of Colombia to Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.
opaca (Peters, JL, 1943) - Central Peru.
tertia (Todd, 1947) - Bolivia.
