Status NT
Habitat destruction and degradation due to land clearance, agricultural conversion and logging, with associated road-building and human colonisation, is the main threat.

Subspecies
Has occasionally been placed in genus Adelomyia but more information required to permit accurate assessment of most appropriate generic placement. Forms a superspecies with Ecuadorian Piedtail (Phlogophilus hemileucurus).
