Subspecies
Subspecies luminosa (perhaps including phaeochroa) has sometimes been treated as a separate species.

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

luminosa (Lawrence, 1862) - Coastal lowlands of northern Colombia.
goudoti (Bourcier, 1843) - Middle and upper Magdalena Valley (central Colombia).
zuliae Cory, 1918 - Northern and western parts of L Maracaibo basin (extreme north-eastern Colombia and north-western Venezuela).
phaeochroa Todd, 1942 - Southern and eastern parts of L Maracaibo basin (north-western Venezuela).
