Habitat
Subtropical and tropical lowland moist forest, swamp forest, shrubland and mangroves. Eucalypt woodlands near rainforest. From sea-level - 800 m.
Voice
A loud, metallic 'aank', repeated rapidly 10 or more times, or 'aank-aank', ending with an upward inflection, uttered continuously in contact in flight. A peculiar guttural chatter or high-pitched screeching uttered when excited.

In a hollow of a rainforest tree.

2 - 4, usually 3; white; rounded; about 29 x 25 mm. Incubation: by female.
Subspecies
Proposed subspecies sumbavensis and tjindanae are synonyms of floresianus; stresemanni of rhodops; explorator too may be synonymous with rhodops.
