Estimated population is 10,000 (2010) and decreasing.
Status LC
Habitat destruction and degradation through logging and conversion to agriculture, trapping for the caged-bird trade, are the main threats.

Voice
Short, staccato flight calls. Short, high-pitched trills when perched.

Genus sometimes lumped into Cyclopsitta (or Opopsitta).
No subspecies.
Similar Species
Edwards's Fig-parrot (Psittaculirostris edwardsii) which has a dark eye-stripe and collar, and red throat. Large Fig-parrot (Psittaculirostris desmarestii) which has an orange crown and lacks yellow cheeks.
