Subspecies
Sometimes placed in genus Nettion. Forms superspecies with Madagascar Teal (Anas bernieri). Subspecies gracilis often considered full species. Subspecies remissa of Rennell I, Solomon Is, extinct.
The following 4 subspecies are recognised:
gibberifrons Müller, 1842 - Java and Sulawesi to Timor and Wetar I.
albogularis (Hume, 1873) - Andaman Is and Great Coco I. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Andaman Teal (Anas albogularis).
gracilis Buller, 1869 - Widespread. Considered by some authors to be a distinct species, Grey Teal (Anas gracilis).
remissa! Buller, 1869 - Rennell I, Solomon Is. Considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Grey Teal (Anas gracilis).
