Subspecies
Genus sometimes subsumed in Passerina. May form a superspecies with Ultramarine Grosbeak (Cyanoloxia brissonii).

The following 4 subspecies are recognised:

indigotica (Ridgway, 1887) - Western Mexico from central Sinaloa southern on Pacific slope to southern Oaxaca and extreme south-western Chiapas.
beneplacita Bangs, 1915 - North-eastern Mexico (Nuevo Le�n and extreme western Tamaulipas).
lucida Sutton & Burleigh, 1939 - North-eastern Mexico (southern interior Tamaulipas).
parellina (Bonaparte, 1850) - Eastern Mexico (from Veracruz, eastern Puebla and northern Oaxaca east to Tabasco, central Chiapas and Yucat�n Peninsula) south to north-western Nicaragua.
