Subspecies
Has been suggested as being sister-species of Tyrannine Woodcreeper (Dendrocincla tyrannina). Subspecies saturata merged with nominate by some authors, but darker, more olive upperparts and allopatric distribution support recognition as separate subspecies.
The following 3 subspecies are recognised:
anabatina Sclater, 1859 - Caribbean slope from southern Mexico (south-eastern Veracruz and northern Oaxaca east to southern Quintana Roo) southern and east to north-eastern Nicaragua.
