Habitat
Subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest. From sea-level - 1,700 m.

Range (Guide)

Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua.

South-eastern Mexico (from southern Veracruz and northern Oaxaca) east to northern Honduras and eastern Nicaragua and south to eastern Costa Rica.

Population
Estimated population is 20,000 - 49,999 (2010).

Subspecies
May form a superspecies with Turquoise Cotinga (Cotinga ridgwayi), Blue Cotinga (Cotinga nattererii), Plum-throated Cotinga (Cotinga maynana), Purple-breasted Cotinga (Cotinga cotinga) and Banded Cotinga (Cotinga maculata), and all sometimes treated as conspecific.

No subspecies.
